Audio Mixers vs. Audio Interfaces.

I used to own and use a Behringer X1204USB ($149). In fact, I did a review of that mixer in 2012 here: https://youtu.be/o587tbUK4SM. It was complicated for a newbie like me to set up for live streaming.

Since then I've found something that is far easier to set up and, I think, better suited for live streaming. It's the Behringer UMC404HD audio interface. It sort of like a mixer in that you can connect up to four (4) mics via XLR or ¼" to the unit. It connects to the PC via USB like the 1204, plus it can be powered over USB. Quite nice.

The biggest difference for vMix users like me is that each mic can coming into the PC as a separate audio channel using ASIO audio devices rather than a single stereo audio channel from the 1204 over USB. Very cool.

That means you can control volume, EQ, compression, noise gate, etc. separately for each mic using the audio mixer feature in vMix. Very nice.
